Thank you everyone your prayers are working! Yesterday Mr. James had a 50/50 chance and so far he is doing a lot better. the following is an email from Becky, Celeste's little sister.
Just wanted to update you on Daddy.
His neck surgery went great. The doctor said he had been living in denial and with that injury for a LONG time. The vertebrae had calcified and grown spurs on them, so if he had fallen again or sneezed too hard, he would have been paralyzed and died from asphyxiation. It was a good thing to have the surgery. The bad thing happened in recovery.
While they were waiting for a room, he went into cardiac arrest. Just like in the movies, they called a “Code Blue to recovery” and Daddy’s heart doctor went running. They didn’t want to do anything invasive because of the delicate nature of his surgery so were giving him Heparin to loosen the clot. Dad has a history of heart trouble and had been off of his Plavix (blood thinners) for a few days to prepare for the surgery; he also had an irregular EKG going into the surgery (saw his heart doctor on Friday), so the heart doctor was on site for surgery. The clot wouldn’t clear and they eventually had to shock his heart 4 separate times. A decision had to be made on whether to treat his clot with balloon angioplasty but the issue was blood thinners.
Normally when they do angioplasty they use up to 4 blood thinners. Because of Dad’s surgery and the risk of him being paralyzed because of the bleeding around his fresh wound in his neck, they could only use Heparin and aspirin. His pressure was erratic and had dropped to 84/50 so we were losing him. We could let him try to fight the heart attack on his own, or risk a 50% chance that he might not live through the angioplasty. We all decided to go with the angioplasty and it went fine. They were able to suck out the clots and, already, just after the procedure, 75% of the effects of the heart attack were gone.
Now he has to remain perfectly still for at least 2 days so he can heal. If he makes it through this, they can put him back on the Plavix. He is in CCU at Terrebonne General.
The neurosurgeon said after the first surgery that God had been watching over him with that injury for a while and saw him through the surgery. I know God was with him last night, and He heard all the prayers of everyone. Thank you!
We know that we have a limited time on this earth and look forward to life in heaven with Jesus. I am just glad we get to spend a little more time on earth with our Daddy. I love him!
All my love,
Becky
